OPS Working Waterman’s Festival
Oct 19 2024 - 8:00am
Join us in celebrating Ocracoke's rich maritime heritage, a tradition that has endured since the island's earliest settlers. From piloting ships through the perilous Ocracoke Inlet to a variety of fishing endeavors, including crabbing, clamming, and oyster harvesting, as well as duck hunting and decoy carving, these occupations have been passed down through generations. The festival will pay homage to these traditions with booths and exhibits featuring the watermen themselves, porch talks highlighting each occupation, a traditional Ocracoke Fish Fry, and activities such as T-shirt sales, poster displays, and a silent auction.
