Trip Insurance

Ocracoke’s Blue Heron Realty offers Trip Insurance to our guests. This insurance can cover your vacation investment against hurricane evacuations and other unforeseen circumstances which could cause cancellation of your trip and forfeiture of payments.  Additional benefits are also included. A Description of Coverage outlining the benefits, exclusions and limitations will be enclosed with your Vacation Rental Agreement. Trip Insurance charges are automatically added to your advance rent payment (a percentage of your rent, based on your length of stay and the departure date). If you do not wish to purchase this coverage, you may do so by initialing appropriately on the Vacation Rental Agreement and deducting the charge when making your payment. We highly recommend that you purchase this coverage.

Hurricanes:
If State or local authorities order a mandatory evacuation of an area that includes the rental unit you have rented, the tenant shall comply with the order. Upon compliance, the tenant will be entitled to a refund in accordance with the North Carolina Vacation Rental Act and AIG Travel Guard Trip Cancellation Insurance. According to the N.C. Vacation Rental Act, in the event of a mandatory evacuation, "The tenant shall not be entitled to a refund if: (i) prior to the tenant taking possession of the property, the tenant refused insurance offered by the landlord or real estate broker that would have compensated him or her for losses or damages resulting from loss of use of the property due to a mandatory evacuation order; or (ii) the tenant purchased insurance offered by the landlord or real estate broker."
